N2 の難易度とは?
N2 は「中上級レベル」とされ、JLPT 全体の 5 段階(N5〜N1)のうち、上から 2 番目の難易度に位置します。N3 までは「やさしい日本語」や短い会話が中心ですが、N2 では長文読解や抽象的な表現、敬語、比喩、論理構成の理解が求められるため、一段とハードルが上がります。
以下のような特徴があります。
• 語彙:ビジネスやニュースで使われる中上級の語彙を理解
• 文法:複雑な文構造・敬語・比喩表現などを理解・運用できる
• 聴解:速い会話スピードや要点・意図を聞き取る
• 読解:ビジネス文書・報告書などの長文を理解できる
そのため、N3 までとは異なり、しっかりとした計画的な学習内容と学習時間の確保が不可欠です。

What Is the Difficulty Level of N2?
N2 is classified as the “intermediate-advanced level” and ranks as the second-highest level of difficulty among the five JLPT levels
(N5–N1). While the N3 level and below focus primarily on “simple Japanese” and short conversations, N2 raises the bar significantly
by requiring candidates to comprehend long reading passages, abstract expressions, honorifics, metaphors, and logical structures.
It has the following characteristics:
• Vocabulary: Understanding intermediate-to-advanced vocabulary used in business and news
• Grammar: Ability to understand and use complex sentence structures, honorifics, and figurative expressions
• Listening: Ability to follow fast-paced conversations and grasp key points and intentions
• Reading Comprehension: Ability to understand long texts such as business documents and reports
Therefore, unlike the N3 level, a well-planned study program and sufficient study time are essential.
N2 レベルで求められる日本語運用力の例
JLPT N2 では、日常会話を超えた実践的な日本語運用力が求められます。

Examples of Japanese language proficiency required at the N2 level
The JLPT N2 requires practical Japanese language proficiency that goes beyond everyday conversation.
The following are examples of content that appears on the exam, but these skills are also common in real-life communication.
語彙・表現力(例)
抽象的・論理的な言葉を理解し、適切に使える能力が求められます。
例:「彼の意見は常識から〈逸脱〉している。」
この〈逸脱〉の意味として最も近いものを選びなさい。

Vocabulary and Expressive Ability (Examples)
Candidates are expected to understand and appropriately use abstract and logical language.

Grammar Comprehension (Example)
You need the ability to use different sentence structures depending on the situation.

聴解力(例)
会話の意図や要点を聞き分け、相手の立場や目的を理解する力が問われます。

Listening Comprehension (Example)
This tests your ability to discern the intent and main points of a conversation and understand the other person’s perspective and
purpose.
Example: “Why can’t Person A go out?”
→ This format requires you to listen to the content and select the appropriate answer from the choices.
読解力(例)
200〜400 字程度の文章を読み、筆者の主張や要点を把握する力が求められます。
例えば、社内通知・報告書・業務マニュアルなどを正確に理解できるレベルです。
実際の試験では新聞記事や広告文などが題材となりますが、実務では文書理解・要約力に直結します。
このように、N2 レベルの外国人は「日常会話に不自由がない」ことに加え、報告・相談・連絡・文書理解などを日本語で自立して行えるレベルにあります。
Reading Comprehension (Example)
This section assesses your ability to read a passage of approximately 200–400 characters and grasp the author’s argument and main
points.
For example, this involves the ability to accurately understand internal memos, reports, and operational manuals.
While the actual exam uses materials such as newspaper articles and advertisements, in practical business settings, this directly relates
to the ability to understand and summarize documents.
Thus, foreign nationals at the N2 level are not only “able to communicate without difficulty in everyday conversation” but are also
capable of independently conducting reports, consultations, communications, and document comprehension in Japanese.
合格までの学習時間の目安
JLPT N2(日本語能力試験 N2)に合格するまでに必要な学習時間は、累計で約 600〜800 時間とされています。
この数字はあくまで一般的な目安であり、母語・学習経験・日本語環境(生活や職場での使用頻度)などによって個人差があります。
以下の表では、各レベルに必要な学習時間と、1 日 1 時間の学習を継続した場合のおおよその期間をまとめています。

800 hours.
This figure is merely a general guideline, and individual results may vary depending on factors such as native language, prior learning

すでに N3 レベルを取得している学習者が N2 を目指す場合は、追加で約 300〜400 時間の学習が必要とされます。
つまり、N2 に合格できる外国人材は、約 1,000 時間近い学習経験を積んだ中上級レベルの人材といえます。
For learners who have already achieved the N3 level and are aiming for N2, an additional 300–400 hours of study is required.
In other words, foreign professionals who pass the N2 exam can be considered intermediate-to-advanced level learners with nearly
1,000 hours of study experience.

■内訳について
上記の目安時間は、次のように設定しています。
• レッスン:75 時間
• 宿題(自主学習):150 時間
→ 合計 225 時間
N2 以上になると語彙・文法量が増え、「読解・聴解の量」に個人差が出やすいため、宿題量(150〜200 時間)が増え、合計 225〜300 時間が目安となります。

At the N2 level and above, the volume of vocabulary and grammar increases, and there tends to be greater individual variation in the amount of reading and listening practice required. As a result, the amount of homework (150–200 hours) increases, bringing the total to an estimated 225–300 hours.

そのため、状況によっては 宿題量の調整、または レッスン時間を増やす対応が必要な場合もございます。
「レッスン+宿題=合計学習時間」を基準に、最も効果的に合格に近づけるように個々の進度に合わせてカリキュラムを調整します。
